History

“The purpose of this Club shall be to promote Social Intercourse, Golf and Automobiling”, The original Clubhouse was constructed in 1912. The Men’s Locker Room was located in a small section of the what is now the Women’s Locker Room and Lounge. There was an open porch overlooking the ninth Green and, at some point in those early years, four elm trees were planted in front of the Clubhouse.

The current Men’s Locker Room was added in 1926 and in 1963, the building was expanded to include the golf shop, bag room and lounge area. In 1993, the locker room was completely renovated and in 1994, the old lounge was totally gutted and reconstructed providing our members with one of the warmest, most comfortable after-golfing gathering rooms in the area.

The Clubhouse had two major changes. In 1966, a fire destroyed much of the south end of the building. It was necessary to rebuild and redecorate almost the entire Clubhouse. In the mid-1980’s for the first time since 1912, it was necessary to go behind the walls to replace an aging sub-structure, wiring and plumbing, and at the same time, build a completely new kitchen, relocate the main dining room and redecorate from top to bottom except for the new Women’s Locker Room – part of the 1992-93 renovation of the North Wing.

Bloomfield Hills Country Club is a Golf Club. Amenities such as swimming, tennis, squash, paddle and other sports are not offered. This is in keeping with the charter as well as the wishes of the membership. We prefer to remain one of the finest golf courses anywhere.

“The purpose of said Club shall be to promote Social Intercourse, Golf and Automobiling.”
said the founding members of Bloomfield Hills Country Club on May 6th, 1909. At the time, many of these members lived in the City of Detroit; they had almost as much fun driving the horseless carriages out to Bloomfield as they did playing a round on their new golf course!
